As you know, and is now generally know, Nintendo used emulation for their Virtual Console services on the Wii, Wii U and 3DS systems (And no, they're not taken from internet, stop with that stupid lie!).
How they work depends on the system, from embedded in certain files in the console, separated the code/graphics from the sound, in raw file, etc. However, for certain computer system, that's not the case. And it is the Commodore 64 Virtual Console!
For this one, varies if seen both the NTSC-U or PAL versions: How the files are stored. In short, the NTSC-U has the files stored around this way:
Let's be honest, I don't know what half of these are, but whaw I trully know are: The LZ77 files are compressed files, so, if you had worked in extracting the roms for SNES, you may be familiar with these; Keyboard seems to be the files for the virtual keyboard of the computer; Snapshot is a "file" that makes the game start from that point, so the player doesn't have to wait a LONG time just to play friggin' Boulder Dash.
Now, the important stuff is inside the "Files" folder: The random characters.
They may not be as random at first... As these are the disk data in raw form! That's right, what you see inside said folder is the data that you can see if you explore a C64 disk by yourself!
Now, for the PAl region, there's a difference? Well, otuside the Hertz and games, yes!
As you can see, the files of the disk are scatered around the main folder. Messy, but does the job.
Now, how do you use them as a disk? Well, tought question. You can't use them directly most of the time (I mean if there are more than one files), you'll need to see which files are in the disk, and in what order! Let's not forget the games that are multi disk, like California Games! What a mess!
Also, something funny, is that the games seem to be taken from cracking groups! Would say hypocrisy, but... Even officially distributed games that are still sold come with these, is something we can't scape from. and well, Searching for the groups, and some personal research, managed to find the files, so, get your hands dirty on these (Note that these are both NTSC and PAL games):
Also note, I may not have looked at a lot of the releases, so I may be wrong on some, but these is by personal look after all.
